The Gift of Time
Our Developmental Kindergarten (DK) Program is designed to give a child, who may not be ready for the rigors of Kindergarten, more time. It gives them an extra year to work on their fine motor skills, social and emotional growth, or need for more play. As in our Four’s program, the children will work on the alphabet, letter recognition, writing, beginning sounds, words, math skills, number recognition, counting and calendar work. We use the whole child approach to education: auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. All three styles of teaching are used in order to touch every child’s needs. Our DK curriculum is similar to a Kindergarten curriculum but is more tailored to suit the needs of the students.
DK is a five day a week program from 9:00-12:00 noon with the option to stay until 2:00 p.m. for the school's Lunch Bunch. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays DK will follow a similar schedule to the Four's program to integrate the children socially during recess, play time, cooking and music. Tuesdays and Thursdays the DK will function separately from our Three's Program. Lunch Bunch Enrichment classes are offered at different times throughout the year, such as: Mad Science, Soccer Shots, Spanish and Music. It is suggested that children who are entering the Developmental Kindergarten class turn age 5 by December 15th.
